The artists work was recently seen in one of the art world’s most influential exhibitions of the year – Tate Britain’s fourth Triennial, Altermodern, which displayed the very best in new and contemporary work by British and International artists.
Working across a range of media, Avery’s work is characterised by formal beauty, humour and a spirit of philosophical enquiry. Generated out of complex research and intellectual rigour; his work pivots on the masterly uses of drawing, used in a variety of expressive forms. Notes of inspiration come from William Blake, PG Woodehouse, Jorge Luis Borges, Joseph Beuys and Joseph Kosuth, revealing themselves upon closer inspection with particular pieces.
To win this print, take a part in the competition!
Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see more of Avery’s work work in Hayward Gallery, London, 23 June – 06 September 2009.
